Have you watched Dil Chahta Hai?
Okay, first of all, if you haven’t then, please do watch it and if you have watched it, then here’s a detail I would like to mention. (Check it out on IMDB, here)

Remember this scene?
This is when the trio goes to Goa for the first time together. And just a little trivia that this scene became so iconic that this fort is now known as ‘Dil Chahta Hai Fort’.
So, yeah, in this scene Akash, Sid, and Sameer were all looking at the beautiful sea promising each other how they’ll every year for at least a week, will try to come to Goa. It’s then Sameer notices Sid’s silence and asks him, “Kya soch raha hai?”.

To which Sid replies, “Dekh raha hun wo jahaaz, jo zara der baad dikhaayi nahi dega. Jaante ho hum teeno us jahaaz ki tarah hain. Hum aaj nahi toh kal apni manzilon ko dhoondhte huey niklenge. Aur ho sakta hain ki hamari manzile alag-alag ho!”

Sid was right though. Because after this, life happened and they did fall apart until they reunite in the climax, and here’s the catch.
Look at this picture below from the climax, wherein Akash sees a ‘jahaaz’ (one similar to what Sid was talking about above) and says, “Aye, Sid! Wo dekh tera jahaaz. Do saal pehle kitna chota tha, ab kitna bada ho gaya hain”.

Now, I want you to observe the distance between the three of them in this particular scene, and compare it with the scene above.
Earlier, the three of them are sitting somewhat farther from each other. However, during the climax when they reunite, the distance between the three of them has reduced and they seem to be sitting more closer. The reduction in the physical distance among the three of them in the two scenes is related to their emotional closeness.
Akash’s dialogue, “Wo dekh tera jahaaz. Do saal pehle kitna chota tha, ab kitna bada ho gaya hain” also conveys that like the size of the ship, the three of them have also grown up and matured and so has their friendship!
