In case you have not seen the film, let me make it easy for you. Here is the story of the film in a few lines.
“It’s a love story. Isme hero hai, Villians hai. Actually, villians thode kam hai. Fights hai, gaane hai, misunderstandings hai. Aur airport pe aakar climax hota hai.”
And if you have seen the film, I am sure you’re already a fan. But in spite of having a ‘cliche’ story, why this film still rules every millennial’s heart?
Here are some reasons why Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is not just any regular love story:
1. The Main Leads
When we talk about love stories, we see two dominating individuals. Usually, both of them are equally bold. But the best thing about the main characters of this film (Ratz and Meow) is the balance. On one side we have Aditi with an impulsive personality; who is not afraid of anything. But then, there is Jai who wants to sort things out peacefully. Both of them balanced each other’s pros and cons.
2. Importance of Friends
Don’t you love when your friends know exactly how you feel without even telling them anything? When Meghna entered Jai’s life, Shaleen could see the discomfort in Aditi’s eyes. From lifting Aditi’s mood after Radha’s death to having an entertaining farewell party, friends know exactly how to support you.
3. Supporting Pillars
The other cast (supporting characters and the cameos) of the film literally supported the story. Be it Naseeruddin Shah’s funloving character or the ruthless character of a policeman by Paresh Rawal, each character played a vital role in the story.
Special Mention: I loved Prateik Babbar as Amit ❤️
4. Relatable Situations
We human beings find different ways to escape from our problems. Meghna found different ways to escape from her parents. She knew the reality but she didn’t want to accept it. But the best part was that she just wanted to take her time.
Meghna’s entry into Jai’s life resulted in Aditi’s exit. Raise your hand if you also imagined yourself in her place. When Shaleen said, “Jai hamesha se hi aisa tha Aditi. Farq sirf itna hain ki pehle wo tum thi”, it hit you hard, didn’t it?
5. Songs for Every Occasion
It would be unfair if we don’t talk about the songs. I mean, of course, A.R. Rahman = BEST!!! But have you realized that this album has a song for every mood and occasion? For your fun road trip with your friends, we have ‘Nazrein Milana’. If you feel like dancing, play ‘Pappu Can’t Dance Sala’. If you’re in a good mood, vibe with ‘Kabhi Kabhi Aditi’. No words for ‘Kahi Toh Hogi Wo’, because it’s not just a song, it’s a feeling.
6. Imperfect Relationships
Every relationship has its ups and downs. But many movies fail to show us the imperfect side of it. Amit’s and Aditi’s relationship is something we all would have related. Siblings fight. But they also talk about their feelings. The sibling relationship shown is pure and real.
7. Differential Families
Instead of showing us some magical fairytale, the film had stories that seemed real. On one hand, where we saw the perfect parents (like Aditi’s), we also saw how some parents have problems with each other (like Meghna’s). Also, Jai’s mother showed us the complications of raising a child alone. Each family had a story to tell.
