While the mega sports icon has been successful for his franchise side, the last 2 years haven’t been his greatest in blue Jersey.
With the IPL 2020 (yeah, title sponsors Vivo have pulled out :p) fixtures announced this week, the Indian fan prepares to once again take in the game, after a standstill that lasted for the past 4 months.
The fighting in comments for our teams, the late nights spent watching games that went down to the wire, the PvP battles inside the main team battles (who doesn’t wanna watch a Jasprit Bumrah over to Virat Kohli), all of that is going to resume from 19th September onwards.
Along with the return of cricket to our waking conscious again, also returns an important unanswered question. What is the future of the former Indian skipper we’ve all loved for over a decade and will love for all the years coming ahead?
While we’ve all been psyched on the tragic and still puzzling demise of reel Dhoni, Sushant Singh Rajput, the 2-time world cup winner has been keeping, admittedly in typical MS Dhoni fashion, a low profile.
Though he hasn’t made any comments related to the actor’s death, it is understood the cricketer stays low on social media.
He was spotted hitting the nets on Friday, at the JSCA International Sports Complex in his hometown Ranchi, gearing up fit an IPL season which will prove by all means career-defining.
Dhoni last played for India in the sides much uncomfortably remembered, exit vs NZ from the world cup semi-final in July 2019, the veteran wicketkeeper then went on an indefinite sabbatical from the game making himself unavailable for selection from both the ODI and T20i teams.
A move that has kept his devotees, Indian team fans & cricket pundits guessing alike, with some pundits already pronouncing his playing days as officially over already.
While his break from competitive cricket has now stretched 13 months now, the Indian team in the intern has since already invested in different combinations, from the promising yet unfulfilling starts of Rishab Pant and to the likes of KL Rahul, whose consistent performances at versatile positions had him briefly lifted to godly status by Twitterati and social media outlets.
Though the, questions remain unanswered:
Has Dhoni given up on his India prospects already and decided to focus on franchise cricket?
Is Maahi still interested?
Will a strong IPL performance necessarily mean a comeback opportunity, or are the selectors already past him?
It is with these and other unanswered questions fans await the beginning of the 13th season of the billion-dollar sports tournament, this time in unfamiliar circumstances in the heat and pomp of UAE, till then all but man one knows what really is going on.
